Sounds like you should use the 'bin' command at the prompt. so...
bin
mget *
From what I know of Mac FS (hfs) filesystems, a file contains a data fork
and an info fork. The info fork is information (properties) of the file
while the data is raw data itself. Could be most likely that the directory
is a pointer to a block of files so won't contain data.
cd into the directory and mget *
In total the operations should be;
