Hi Eugene ,
have you used linuxconf recently ,
it has a nasty habit of changing the permissions related to kppp and the modem .
Re- check the permissons you set when you set up kppp ,
And re-enter your pap(esatclear password) password in kppp setup.
Also you could try increasing the pppd timeout in kppp setup .
And if your having trouble with your isp try changing to another.
