If you want a system wide window manager there is a file at
/usr/X11/lib/X11/xinit/xinitrc
Which is used as a default when the user has no ~/.xinitrc
Down at the bottom of the file you should also find a startkde in which case
you can comment this out and put in whichever wm you want.
