They announced packages maybe two weeks ago afaik for slink - if you add
the line

deb ftp://ftp.gnome.org/pub/GNOME/gnome-1.0/debian slink main

to /etc/apt/sources.list
then you get all the nice apt features like semi-automatic upgrades to the
latest and greatest version :)
