Hello All,

My name is Padhraig Fox , I’m currently undertaking a study of Linux in Ireland
as part of my Masters thesis and would welcome any input or information
which anyone here on the list could provide. I’ve been on the list for some time
now and I am an occasional user of linux.

My research topic aims to examine the emergence and use of open source
tools in Ireland and the experience of Linux in particular. The key focus is that
of corporate adoption of the o/s in organisations and companies in Ireland.

The research will attempt to identify the key reasons for using linux/open-
source tools and the key reasons why organisations/people don’t.

This is not a blatant promotional exercise to champion the use of linux but a
balanced discussion of the phenomena in Ireland, therefore I would welcome
negative as well as positive Linux anecdotes and information. I am very pro-
linux, but the aim is to examine the practicalities and benefits of using open-
source tools rather than die-hard anti-MS propaganda.

This request is aimed particularly at individuals who use Linux/Open Source
tools in their workplace or are aware of organisations who do so and would be
willing to give me a few minutes of their time.

Thanks for your patience reading this long-winded mail, to any who object to
my request and feel that this is Spam, please flame me at my address.

Regards,

Padhraig Fox
