I just prefer to keep the number of dependencies to a minimum. Nothing I
hate more than trying to install a bit of software, apt-get install
doesn't work so I get the source only to find out it depends on 10 libs
each of which are in turn dependent on 10 more.
The glib stuff is good, but I'd only use it if I was usin a lot of
