Hello !
I've got a little problem. Since I installed our new gateway
there's much problem with name lookups. Lot's of users complain
that they can't see pages. I use ip masquarading and dnscache.
The strange thing was that I can resolve every name from the
gateway itself. I installed squid and if users connect to it they
can view pages but there's some pages which don't like proxies
too much. One of my friends suggested me to change the network
card which connects to the LAN. It's a RealTek card (8139) but
I don't think this can cause problem. OK, we have approx 75 users,
1MB and they use the net all the time. The strange thing was that
I stopped bind before installing dnscache and than deleted one
line from /etc/resolv.conf (145.226.224.249) but when I monitored
one machines packets I've seen that it goes to this DNS server! And
it couldn't respond. But why did it stay in the memory? After
rebooting the server nothing changed. OK, I doesn't see the dns
requests any more but 50% of pages couldn't displayed.
Bye,
Ago
