Fair dues to you Donnacha, I totally agree with you, opensource is not the
be all and end all.
Don't get me wrong, I would never buy a Microsoft product, but no probs
paying for any other closed software - or open for that matter. I always
pick what works best, regardless of the "philosophy" behind it.
But then again, I'm not a programmer, and I have no intention of ever being
a programmer, coz its BORING :), like databases.
A bit like US presidents, I've tried it, and I didn't like it.

But for some people, this "right tool for the job" mentality goes right
out the door when closed-source/propreitary software is mentioned. It's
not even a consideration.
I won't go on and rehash all the usual closed vs open source arguements.
In the end, it comes down to what's important for you. If it's simply
functionality, then any application/product will do, but if it's
politics then you might be excluding a lot of potentially cost-saving
tools out there.
