Thanks for the response Paul. However, does anybody know a method
short of installing new things on the box of finding out the speed and
duplex settings of a Network Card (RH5.2)?

I'm not sure there is a standard way with RedHat 5.2. The very latest
version of net-tools, 1.59 last time I looked, contains a new program
called mii-tool. It can tell you exactly what your 10/100 card is doing,
force it to a particular mode of operation, or force a renegotiation.
I don't know if it works with 2.0 kernels but there's no harm in
grabbing a .src.rpm and having a go. Good luck to you finding an RPM
that isn't built with RPMv4 though. You may have to settle for raw source.
Paul.
