I started reading a book on Oracle the other day, so this is from the
mouth (or fingers) of a complete novice, but the book seemed to say that
when a new database is created, a certain amount of space is allocated for
each row, which equals the amount needed for the current columns, plus
extra space in each row for expansion, if extra columns are added in the
future.
And the book said that if this expansion space runs out, the solution is
to basically export the table, drop, and import again.
HTH!
Gary.
