you type init 1 into a vt, wonder why nothing is happening and then
start seeing "nfs server .... not responding" then you look at the
prompt properly and realise what you've done.
argg..
luckily i got "init 3" typed in before the remote box shut down
networking...
but this is yet another example of why Unix sucks so much... it's that
bloody 'network is the computer' mantra to blame here. With windows
you can't make these sort of mistakes as those systems have far better
manageability features, eg more sophisticated access control for doing
things like remote maintenance.
