I was wondering about that too. The only reason you should ever shut down is
to conserve energy. Or booting a new kernel, or you have a serious hangover
and don't wan't to kill -HUP pid

I reboot my X-SERVER when in doubt coz it fixes pretty much all issues. But
even that is a rarety. I remeber one time my wife and I were playing this
mental level in Heroes3, multi-player teams, and the game lasted 20 odd
days. Basically for 20 days, I was running lots of destop apps. OK I
rebooted my desktop, p200 256MB an old DIGITAL box, the other day as I
"thought" it had crashed, or that an app had crashed. But it turned out that
my wife hung her dry washing over the MP3 fileserver and it shutdown due to
insuffient airflow. Thats why winamp - or whatever the hell xmms is called -
stopped responding. All I actually had to do was power cycle the mp3 server
and thats that.

All in all everything is super stable, if you don't use alpha/beta releases
of software then your usually sorted.

xmms=winamp
any x-server=Windows
BASH=DOS

Its easier that way, anyway M$ didn't invent the word windows. Mr. Window
did.
