Possibly. But it's difficult to get people to help organise them...or
even come.

Curiously, the suburban ones seem to work - people don't mind walking ten
minutes to the pub, but town-based ones don't work.

Both have their places...it's probably a good idea to have a "meet every
month in the same place, the same time" type thing, and then have a
cronjob setup to mail to the list, and remind people.
