Just found it in some notes I'd made about this very topic some time ago.
I plan do this sort of project when(if) I get my own house.

Biggest problem is to make it generic enough. You'll need 2 joysticks per
player - Robotron anyone? Also at least 8 buttons each for new-fangled
fighting games, a trackball each for centipede, some of those nifty star
wars flight-yokes and of course who could do without 4 player Gauntlet?

It's going to be a very large (or modular) podium.
