[ILUG] Microcomputer Research PCMCIA card

Somebody asked about using one of these cards recently and the consensus
semed to be that the 10M version worked but the 10/100 didn't. I happened to
have one of these cards here today, and I booted a notebook with ver. 1.6 of
the Linuxcare BBC. Started pcmcia services, stuck in the card, and it was
recognised - loaded 8390 and cs_net modules AFAIR. (Unfortunately, I didn't
get to send any packets over the wire. Whenever I plugged the dongle into
the card the notebook turned off. There is a suspicion that the dongle may
not have belonged to the card :-( . It was not my day for PCMCIA network
cards. I also had a Xircom CEM-33 which is a supported card, and again was
recognised on insertion. However, configuring the network resulted in a hard
hang which killed even the power button on the notebook - it was necessary
to remove the battery to restart. Eventually I transferred 50MB of files
over PLIP - still, I suppose it was marginally less painful than floppies)

Anyway, this was just to point out that it appeared tha the card may be made
work, if the person concerned still has the problem, and didn't take the
list's collective advice which was to fob the piece of crap off on some
luckless 'doze luser.
