it's not the cpu, it's the chipset. Athlon would work fine if someone
built a chipset that supported SMP (see below). Indeed, K6 would
"support" SMP too.

you have to buy special Athlons?
eek... I thought AMD built their business on not screwing people in
the wallet dept. like Intel traditionally do. There's no good
technical reason why standard Athlons shouldn't work on an SMP board -
unless AMD went out of their way to hobble 'normal' athlons.
