Hah. You'd be *amazed* at the cluelessness of the general populace.
I've had people approach me (at places like eXpo) and explain the most
peculiar and surprisingly-trivial problems to me regarding their
attempts to get onto the ILUG site, or the list. I don't want to make
management of the list any more complex for *me*, and I don't want to
make access any more complex for *them*. If we've been saying (as we
have) "Got a Linux problem? Mail ilug at domain linux.ie for help.", then I
don't want to suddenly start turning people away at the door on
account of the occasional spam message.

For what it's worth, I *do* take the obvious measures to prevent it.
However, I'm unwilling to take measures which prevent Joe User from
being able to send My First Linux Question to what is, after all, an
excellent resource for answers to such questions.
