[ILUG] Shutdown messages

Afternoon,

Anybody know of a way to log shutdown messages? I've been getting some strange
occurances on shutdown/reboot lately. I had Mandrake 7.2 installed and it
wasn't able to unmount /usr. The message 'umount: unable to unmount /usr
device or resource busy' was being displayed and then nothing. I've now
installed Mdk 8 Powerpack which solved that particular problem till I compiled
a new Kernel. New Kernel (2.4.5) installed OK, everything works except that I
went to reboot, everything started to shut down, then a message appeared along
the lines of '/etc/rc6.d/reboot segmentation fault' or some such.
So, any way of logging these messages to see exactly wtf is going on?

Thanks,

Paul.
