Make sure that if glib install in /usr/local (which is the default prefix),
that /usr/local/lib is in /etc/ld.so.conf (which is isn't by default on
debian), and run ldconfig -v. Look at the output of that for libglib.
You also need to be able to find glib-config, but configure is generally
clever enough to find it, if it's installed. on my debian machine it's in
/usr/bin/glib-config
