An update...
I bit the bullet last night and feteched Ximian 1.4. No problems with the
install and I now have a stable Gnome install. I'm quite impressed.

I had installed most of the updates, but they do not have any out for Gnome
yet. The ones from Rawhide had too much dependency on other packages that
weren't installed.
