[ILUG] fetchmail through ssh?

Hello all,
A quick question. I have read the man pages for ssh, and the ssh
tutorial on the linux.ie website (well, a copy that I printed of it a
while back), but I still haven't been able to get the ssh tunnelling
right.
My situation is this: home computer running linux with latest
versions of ssh, fetchmail, procmail, sendmail, openssl, etc. POP3
servers at college, work, and pop.mail.yahoo.com. My
~/.fetchmailrc file is set up and I can run fetchmail to collect mail
from the pop servers.
I know that mail can be collected from POP servers by tunnelling
the connection through ssh with the -L and -R options, but haven't
been able to get it right. I don't like the idea of my work password
being transmitted in clear text, hence my reason for wanting to
tunnel through SSH.
Can anyone give me the " pop mail though ssh for Dummies "
guide to doing this? i.e the successive commands to run at the
console. I want to use fetchmail to actually retrieve the mail, as I
need the incoming mail to be passed to procmail for filtering.
Thanks for the help. Hope you all have a nice day.

James
