[ILUG] Where should the root file system for a diskless client reside?

I know that a Sun employee reads this list, this message is for him, and
anyone else who might have experience setting up diskless systems. The ltsp
is currently looking to re-locate the root directory for the workstations
and I just wanted to find out what others use. I know that Sun markets a
thin-client, I think it was called the Sunray. Does anyone know where the
root file system for this resides on the server? The current options being
discussed include:
/opt Fine for third-party software, but what happens if a distro wants to
include it?
/var Not popular, as this is supposed to be for transient data, and the
root file system is R/O.
/usr/. . . There are various arguements for different sub-directories
under /usr.
/srv This has been sugested because the FHS is considering putting apache
files here in the next revision. But it does not comply with the current
FHS.

At the moment the entire package resides in /tftpboot. The general
consensus is to get it out of here ASAP as this is reserved for tftpboot
files only.

So, if anyone knows where other systems currently put root file systems for
remote terminals, at least we will have something to compare to and
discuss.

Cheers,
