[ILUG] Odd stuff with /dev/st0 (reprise)

Back at the start of June of this year, I wrote:

| I don't know, maybe someone has seen this.
| I'm using a DLT7000 with an AHA 2944 under kernel 2.2.19 with Amanda
| as part of a backup scheme.

| In the past I've checked tape labels by using 'dd if=/dev/st0', which
| was fine, but now (possibly since moving to 2.2.19), I get:

| dd: /dev/st0: Cannot allocate memory

| and something similar from cat. However Amanda still works fine!
| Suffice to say that the machine in question is not short of memory,
| and I have tried using explicit size arguments (viz. dd if=/dev/st0
| bs=1024 count=1).

| Any ideas?

There were no answers and I shrugged, found that amcheck did the right
thing and decided to leave it alone and have another look when 2.2.20 came
out.

Since then there have been a handful of mails asking me if I found or was
told of a solution.

No. No luck as yet, so for the sake of those who find these mails via
Google and the like, I don't have an answer for you. Sorry.
