Hi,
*any* help is appreciated. It doesnt matter
if you dont know alot about linux security. If you
dont know alot now you should do after this!
I'm not versed in the ways of security too much
myself but that and cryptography are very
interesting. Perhaps we could sit with our
legs crossed and think of prime numbers!
nah, only joking, much as I'd love to it just
doesnt make me money.
crypto *is* an important factor of security. perhaps
you could take something from that angle.
You dont have to tell me what you're gonna
do but I can try to help or something. It's
not so much that I want to co-write something
for the site as much as just getting some new
articles on the site and helping newbies etc
to have a better grasp of security issues etc.
aswell as doing something on security scanners
like nessus etc I may do something about
r00t kits. prevention, cure, spotting them
etc.
email me with ideas or just plough straight ahead.
remember plagerism is copying one work,
research is copying from many different sources!
l8r,
shane

I'd like to help, but I'm almost completely clueless about linux
specific security, but if you need a proofreader/drone give me a shout.
I do how ever know a little Cryptography Theory (I've implement Digital
Signatures/RSA in C++ and java from scratch, Studied Cryptography in
College),
So maybe that will come in usefull somewhere.

Subject: [ILUG] linux security
hi all,
Just been reading the thread on that
box which was r00ted. damn pesky
crackers.
would anyone like to help me to write
a begginners security guide for linux.ie??
the only reason I would have for asking
for help with the article is because I'm
not exactly the most experienced linux
user.
the article could deal with:
- entry points, how to block them
- deploying an ids
- using md5sums to check whether files have been
messed with
- hardening your box
- using hardening scripts like bastille-linux
and finally
- recovering from an intrusion
on second thoughts maybe it would be better
if there could be one article for each topic.
I am willing to write at least one of these but
would appreciate the help.
anyone who is interested can drop me a line
at this addy or mail: shane at domain blackflame.8m.com
later,
shane
