Try installing lilo on the first partition after the MBR. Some machines
don't like it, especially if you have another bootmanager installed, or
eisa/diag utilities or whatnot.

Try to manually specify the partition sizes
I go for the following :

/boot (30MB)
/ (500MB)
/var (anything up to 3GB but for a desktop go for 250 or so)
/usr (1500)
/usr/local (Whatever you feel you will need in terms of extra apps you may
install - I go for 5GB - Games, staroffice etc etc)
/tmp (1000 is normally sufficient)
swap of minimum 64MB, but I go for 128MB or more. The reason being, I
*almost* ran out of memory once with lots of apps open (160MB and 64 swap)
/home (well, I go for 6GB but it could just as easily be 50MB)
/home2 (optional)
/opt (optional)

Hope this helps.

-----------------
I installed SUSE 7.1 on a P133 32mb ram, but every time I try and boot it
LILO just gets to LIL-, I had a look on the web and it said it was because
the boot partition is over 1024 or that the drive geometry is wrong. So I
reinstalled it about 4-5 times putting LILO on a boot partition, then on a
floppy and I put in the main partition which I made smaller than 1024. I
don't think it is hardware as I can boot it if I get the CD to boot the
installed system.
