Padraig here has spent the last few months pulling hair out over wierd
deadlocks in his threaded code, and some of it turned out to be nasty old
bugs in glibc - loads of functions (popen() comes to mind) weren't thread
safe, and could cause deadlocks. Loads of them have been fixed in 2.2.4 -
so if you are using a lots of work with threaded applications, it could be
well worth upgrading ASAP.
