I played with latd a while back, but never used it enough to be
worried about terminal types.
What is TERM set to by default if you don't force it to vt100
(and it's 'vt100' not 'VT100')?
Try the linux-decnet list (details at http://linux-decnet.sf.net).
The latd author is Patrick Caulfield. He'll probably be able to
help you.
BTW, what type of terminal server is it?
