I don't normally answer my own questions but in the interests of saving the
time of the "Use vi" losers :-) I will this time. Opening a file via FTP
works as advertised, when it works, that is. I installed xemacs on a RH7.1
box I had floating around and that worked fine - Xemacs 21.1 (patch 14).
Neither Xemacs 21.1 (patch 12) (as supplied with SuSE 7.1) nor GNU Emacs
20.7.1 (as supplied with SuSE 7.1 and RedHat 7.1) work correctly.
