do you mean you didn't get a shell or what?
If not, stick in a slackware, redhat or whatever cd and at it's lilo prompt add the following options:
root=/dev/hdaX initrd=
where /dev/hdaX is your root device. These options may need correction but I think they are right. It'll then boot the CD's kernel but use your usual root device, mount homes etc. Modules won't load but don't worry, then reinstall lilo or whatever you need to do.
You could also try the ilug BBC, but you'll need a burner or a friend with one.
