[ILUG] using tc with aliased ports

Does anyone have experience of using tc class based queuing on an Ethernet
port using IP aliases (e.g. eth0:1) to handle complex traffic
shaping/routing?

We're currently using specialised hardware (Packeteer and NetReality) but
feel that Linux ought to be able to fill our requirements more flexibly.
Detailed Documentation seems a bit sparse - like what all the parameters are
for the various queues and what they do. Any ideas?

Before I invest any time in this, it would good to know if anyone has come
across any limitations or caveats - like does it fall over with bursts above
a certain amount, or if a particular class is more robust than others - any
an experienced helping hand would be welcomed
