If that's what it's trying to parse, then it's wrong:

Kyle Jones, author of VM, has several times over the last few years attempted
to make the From line more tightly bound, and each time it breaks /someone/'s
mail.

And whoever it was that was mentioning the insertion of > to escape stray
"From" lines will find that the above URL mentions that, too.
