Yes, the machine can dial to the emerge service, and seems to get
through the authentication, after a few seconds a PPP error is given. I
was thinking this might have something to do with the digital line; does
it need to be set up as ISDN? (I've tried this with chat and on
gnome-ppp.) I can use the phone to connect to standard ISPs, but this is
much more expensive.
