does RH put a config in /boot at all? ... some distribs do ..

usually though RH compiled kernels are under-optimised to run on more
platforms and have a load of unneeded stuff on them .. so your best bet is
to figure out what devices you have and pick them as modules.. or maybe
just module everything you can (except IDE/ext2 of course)..
