The July 2001 edition (issue 10 ) of Linux Magazine (www.linux-
magazine.co.uk) dedicates a good portion of the magazine to CD burining.
A sub-article mentions converting between audio file formats.
For .mp3 to .wav, they mention mpg123 and for .wav to .mp3 they mention
bladeenc.
I do not know of any utility to go directly from one format to another
without doing something with a .wav file. You may want to search for
utils that convert .wav to .au, and then write a shell script to do the
whole conversion for you.
Good Luck!
