it may also be worth noting that frequently (if not always) the portmapper
entry in /etc/hosts.allow must be an IP address *not* a hostname.
ALL: ALL
may not even work.
ALL: 192.168.1.2
or
portmap: 192.168.1.2
is (from experience with, as yet, no technical explanation)
