Here in the Department of Computer Science at University College Cork
we use Linux for almost all of the courses for the BSc in Computer Science.
There are 4 labs, each with approx 55 Compaq P-III computers, all running
the latest release of SuSE Linux. They also dual-boot to Windows NT.
However, we have no specific courses on the topic of "*nix programming".
Students tend to learn it gradually, a little from this course, a little
from that course, and a lot from each other.
Contrary to some postings about it being hard to get access to the
computer labs, all our labs are open from 8am to 10pm (less at weekends),
and can be freely used by any of our CS students as long as there are
no formal practicals going on at that time.
As for the person who claimed that Linux was dying out, let's just say
that he speaketh through his ath-hole.
