Well, it supported them quite happily in the previous release,
which I'm running right now - in fact, all of KDE and Qt does -
konqueror is particularly nice.
You do need to have a properly configured XFree 4 installation including Xft
and XRender, and some outline fonts, of course, and you need to enable it
in KDE configuration panel.
The other thing to note is that the font naming scheme itself is changed in
the new font system (it's more like postscript / windows / macos /
any-other-system-except-X), so even if you have the same font installed as an
outline in the old and new system, they'll have different names (no more
X"L"FDs - yay!), so you'll probably have to go through all your font settings
and reset them to use the new font names.
Mandrake 8 has it all set up out-of-box, except for enabling it in the
config. panel.

I haven't bothered with gnome* or mozilla for a long time :-)
* In fact, I was rather disappointed when the FSF jumped on the GNOME
bandwagon - I had previously thought that GNUStep was their "offical"
desktop. Step is generally nicer than GNOME , and a fair bit nicer
(architecturally, anyway) than KDE.
