I just upgraded my main box from SuSE 7.1 to SuSE 7.2 and I have to say that
it was the smoothest distribution upgrade I've ever performed i.e. it
worked. But (there's always a but, isn't there) I seem to have lost my TrueType
fonts. I did a diff on the old and new X config files the only difference
there was an extra entry for /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/misc. There's a
Load "freetype"
in the modules section of each of them and the freetype library is there in
/usr/X11R6/lib/modules/fonts/libfreetype.a and ls -lu indicates that it is
being read on X startup.
All these good signs notwithstanding, viewing web pages with small fonts is
horrible and sure enough doing an xlsfonts|grep microsoft on the 7.2
installation gives me nothing whereas I get 172 lines of output on the 7.1
installation (yes, I did do an upgrade, but I'm too long at this crap not to
have kept a parallel copy of the 7.1 installation on another disk).
Suggestions welcomed so that I can read web pages again.
Niall
P.S. Let's try to keep the S/N high and direct all suggestions about using
Debian or A.O.D. to /dev/null
