[ILUG] SuSE 7.2 and my fonts, again

Well thanks to Liam I got my Truetype fonts back - something in the update
process had zapped the fonts.dir file in the truetype directory. Rebuild
that and back come the fonts. However, the only real reason I have for
wanting Truetype fonts is to try to get web pages to render readably. My
benchmark is www.scan.co.uk> I haven't bought anything there in a while, and
probably won't again, but their front page does use small fonts and I'd
appreciate any comments on this tale of bizarreness WRT looking at that page.

As I write, the page is displayed on my notebook which runs at 1400x1050 on
a 14" screen and doesn't have truetype fonts. Scan's front page is readable.

It's also displayed on my main machine's monitor which runs at 1600x1200 on
a 19" (17.7") screen and does have truetype fonts. Scan's front page is
barely readable when I'm connected. However, if I disconnect, and reload a
couple of times such that Netscape tells me that "Can't find server - using
cached copy instead" then bingo! - I can read the bloody page. The page uses
a stylesheet which is not inline and I'm guessing that Netscape doesn't
cache that, but that's purely a guess.

Konqueror has similar problems. When I click on the little lifebelt icon
which starts up Konqueror with a page of pointers to various available
manuals, tutorials, sources of help etc. the page I get up is completely
unreadable.

In short, HELP! - I need to be able to browse without making my eyesight
even worse than it already is.

Niall
