One strategy is to run dhcp servers on two machines, but to have them
allocate out of different IP address ranges. AIUI, dhcp clients when
seeking an extension on a lease ask the server that allocated the lease
initially rather than re-broadcasting a lease renew request. ICBW though.
This may be sufficient for purely dynamic allocations, so long as you have
plenty of IP addresses (ie. private addresses). If you have some static
allocations, it would be necessary to maintain the two static databases
independently. Eugh.
The ISC's 3.0 release of their dhcp stuff seems to support failover with
a distributed database sort-of-thing.
