I don't have an x86 box to test this on any more, but aren't the OSPM
modules related to ACPI?
In which case, the only thing you loose getting rid of them is instability.
ACPI seems to be still at the "We're not sure what we're doing, so we'll all
do it badly" stage, even Windows (with the advantage of complete hardware
support, and IIRC being involved in the design of it, can't manage to make
it work.
There are also WOL and WOR options which I never got working (when I
connected the WOL cable, the machine would _never_ turn off... bit
annoying).
