Well, yes and no. You can tell a lot from ATI[0-7] under windows. In
particular, you can find out whether the chipset is a winmodem, and if
it is, whether it's supported by a linmodem driver.

In fact if you can tell this from selecting the modem under control panel,
going to properties, diagnostics and querying the modem, which also does
queries on what fax classes it supports.
