That's just icky. I'd prefer to use E instead.

4.0.3. Not the latest and greatest, but there's no mention of fonts in
the 4.1.0 release notes and 4.2.0 is still a month or more away.

The only 8859-15 font I've got is lucidux. 'fixed' claims to do it too,
but I'm not even going to try it.
