the setup is as follows:
gateway mail-server is exchange 2k in domain 2;
internal linux mail server in domain 1 running postfix and courier-imap
using pam_smb to authenticate against PDC;
domain 1 has a trust relationship with domain 2;
users access mail via internal mail server with doze/lookout;
fetchmail gets mail from exchange server with users passwords in
.fetchmailrc;
*PROBLEM* users passwords expire every 30days which means .fetchmailrc files
have to be changed. That is what i'm trying to avoid.

hmm.. there's a fetchmail option for authentication: NTLM, but
that doesn't help you get the password. The user would still have to
type it in.
I assume what you have is clients running UNIX who want to get mail from the
exchange server? If so, then they need (IIRC) to turn on the NTLM option,
and you need to have IMAP or POP3 on the exchange server.
