I know the options in .za are not exactly brilliant; I think the best
description would be "anarchic". People are lucky to get 28.8kbit
connections there. Somebody from South Africa said he was used to leaked
dial-up numbers to avoid large phone bills. Not quite legal, but
"everybody was doing it" :P
I'm not too satisfied with this country's offers, either. I spoke to an
NTL person a few minutes ago, and was underwhelmed yet again. I'd love
to see *anything* unmetered available. Even a fixed charge unmetered
dial-up thing would be enough now :/
(I'm also struggling with kernel 2.4.x not working quite right with PPP
these days - I get a few minutes of connection after 10-20 attempts)

There is no best - there is only adequate. I was kicked out by Esat
because I used the whole weekend for EverCrack. I didn't even use a lot
of bandwidth!
Errorcom are also not popular. They sound a tad like the monopoly I'm
used to from Norway.
I haven't been able to connect to either Indigo or Oceanfree for ages.
They were good when they worked.

ADSL was mentioned in another thread. Horribly expensive, but I am
actually considering it if there's no huge connection fee. The phone
bills have been terrible lately. I blame Richard Dean Anderson.

Seriously, the latter is actually possible. They don't announce it, but
there is usually enough information to get things working.
(With cable, I expect you'll have to set up a DHCP client. But cable is
only available in Tallaght.)
