The modem is *not* the issue; I connect every time in windoze :/
I've checked that all packages I use (Debian Sid) are good. I though of
trying Potato on box #2 till I remembered it has no NIC or CD-ROM, so I
can't get much installed on it now. Maybe Slackware, but that's a pain.
Some people on the Debian channel on the OpenProjects network also
reported similar problems. "2.4.x and PPP don't mix", to quote one guy.
Ah, maybe .12-ac6 or .13 helps.
I hope they kept Rik's VM in .13..
