Brian,
I don't think that youo will have a problem with any modem, provided it's
not a Winmodem.
I have a proprietary 56k external modem (no idea what make!) attached to my
pc and when I installed SuSE 6.1, it just asked where the modem was attached
to (serial port 2), I told it, and it worked first time. No tweeking
required at all.
