Hi,
I seek advice on the following. I want to set up a *simple* web site to
serve as a home base for Irish researchers interested in injury
prevention. I like Slashdot and Perlmonks a lot and I aim to achieve
something comparably easy to use.
Not being a sucidial megalomaniac, I intend to take something like
Slashcode, (the core of Slashdot) or the Everything Engine (core of
Perlmonks), install it, turn off lots (most) of the features, and work
up from there.
So to my question. Both of these systems have features that are probably
very useful for my intended audience, but they also have many many extra
features. Is there a simpler alternative that anyone can suggest for me
to investigate?
Specs -
People can join themselves
People can easily post, or submit for posting news items using plain text
or very simple html
People can comment easily on news items
It is hard for script kiddies to deface
It is not too hard to manage
My own relevant skills are Perl, Apache, Mason and MySQL development. I
could use something else, but only if it requires little actual
additional knowledge!
