Not sure, to be honest. The last time I had to do a task like this was in the
middle of a whole lot of other mailbox frobbing (cleaning out MUA-specific
headers, cleaning up addresses, etc.) and since I was already hacking in
Perl I just used a big ol' hash of message IDs.
