It is still possible to get a Linux compatible internal
modem. What you gotta look for is "on-board
DSP". I got a Hayes v92 modem with DSP
in PC world recently. It was over 70 Euros
though.
You might be able to pick up a cheaper brand
modem with DSP. More of a gamble though.
Avoid anything that says "software modem".
Many modems are starting to mention being
linux compatible on the packaging also.
Beware though that some of those are just
winmodems with linux drivers.

Subject: [ILUG] [OT-ish] v.90/v.92 modem wanted
I'm looking for either an external or internal v.90/v.92 modem.
I've been checking prices and I can't believe that external modems
are still over the EUR75 mark. And the problem with internals is
getting one that is Linux compatible...
So, I'm sure that, in this age of IDSN, cable and ADSL (oops - must
be the wrong country I'm thinking about), there must be some lonely,
retired modems out there, just itching for a new home.
Anyone got one they don't need? Will compensate.
Later,
Kenn
